Here’s what people are saying about nom! Schools

“The nom! Schools program successfully combined nutrition education with practical cooking skills, empowering students to make healthier food choices. By emphasising the versatility of canned and frozen fruits and vegetables, the program also addressed issues of accessibility and convenience, making healthy eating more attainable for all students.”

“… Since taking part in the foodbank incursion, my son is happy to try new foods he wouldn’t usually try. I mentioned on the day that he just wouldn’t try tomatoes. Said he didn’t like them. After having them at the incursion, he now declares himself a fan of tomatoes. He has also prepped and cooked the Ninja noodles twice. Included in the Ninja noodles are also foods he wouldn’t attempt. ie: celery and green beans.

So, he is now a fan of both of those foods also. He also made the corn dip. Both of which he was very proud of. He has always been a good and healthy eater, he just hasn’t been very experimental, but after attending your food incursion, his world has opened up and he is more open to trying new things. This incursion is brilliant!

“Skye and Laura were amazing! The education session was engaging, and the students really enjoyed the cooking part of the workshop. You could see the sense of pride and accomplishment in the students with what they had made. One of the students said to me ‘’we are just kids and look at what we made!’’. It was also nice that they received a recipe book and an information book about different foods. I had a student come up to tell me that he wants to start cooking at home with the recipe book he had been given.”

‘’I found the entire program so engaging and really informed my class about the value of knowing about food nutrition. They thoroughly enjoyed participating in the program. It was informative and engaging and I liked the way that [the facilitator] not only delivered the information but then provided an engaging hands, on activity.

The students loved the cooking aspect and gave them the life skill of cleaning up. It was lovely to see them all try new foods they would not normally eat. I have had parents come in and compliment the program. I would definitely like to be involved again next year. Thank you!!

The girl on the left is wearing a yellow school polo shirt with a school emblem, and she has her hair tied back. The girl on the right is wearing a dark blue jacket over a blue shirt and is also focused on mixing the ingredients.

On the table in front of them, there is a red cutting board with a blue knife, and next to it is a green placemat with what appears to be a recipe or instructions sheet. The background shows a classroom or kitchen setting, with other students and tables visible, indicating a group activity or cooking class. The atmosphere seems educational and collaborative.
